A dozen players – eight rising seniors and a foursome of rising juniors — have been selected to represent Fastpitch Northwest’s first All-Northwest All-Star team that will participate in Triple Crown Softball’s City of Lights College Exposure Tournament to be held in Las Vegas during the last weekend in October.
The players were selected for their performances during the recently-held 10th annual Fastpitch NW’s three-day College Exposure Tournament held in Centralia, WA. The 12 will participate in a minimum of five games and each player will participate in one of the City of Light’s pre-tournament college coaching clinics.
For the 12 players, head coach Mike Brooks and two female chaperones, all expenses will be paid by Fastpitch Northwest.
“We are very excited about Team Northwest,” said Brooks, director for Fastpitch Northwest. “All 12 girls we selected said yes immediately.”
Team Northwest features four players each from Washington, Idaho and Oregon.
Some of the logistics are yet to be finalized said Brooks, as the dozen players will be arriving to McCarran Airport in Las Vegas from different cities throughout the northwest.
“The girls will be in on the afternoon and evening of the 24th and will sign up for their pre-tournament camps at that time,” said Brooks, who noted that Fastpitch NW was covering all expenses from airfare to accomadations to pre-tournament registration to meals.
“We will also have a block of rooms set aside for any attending parents wishing to stay at the team hotel,” said Brooks, who added that Fastpitch NW has reserved a 15-passenger van for player and coach travel.
Las Vegas hosts a pair of City of Lights U-18 college exposure softball events, Oct. 25-27 and in mid-November. The October event is expected to have more than 100 teams with teams participating representing 11 states and Canada.
As of Aug. 24, nearly 50 college coaches had registered for the Oct. 25-27 City of Lights tournament. The breakdown is two from Division 1 colleges, four from Division 2, a dozen from Division 3, 14 from NAIA and 17 from junior colleges.
Team entries and college coaches attending will be finalized Sept. 30.
