Ken has total of 22 years in Fastpitch softball. During his 8 years as a competitive summer coach, his teams won 3 state championships at 12U, 14U, and 16U. His teams took 3rd place at the NSA 12U National Championships in 1992. In 1993 he started the Centralia High School fast pitch program and has amassed 261 wins during his tenure. The Tigers have played in the State title game 3 times, captured 5 district titles, and 5 league titles. He currently is employed as a para educator at Centralia High School. He is a private hitting instructor as well, along with leading the Tiger fast pitch team. From 1980 until 1992 he officiated high school football, basketball and softball, highlighted by officiating the boys state basketball championship game in the Tacoma Dome in 1990. Before retiring from officiating, he worked 1 year as a NWACC basketball official. Ken is a member of the Washington State Coaches Association. He and his wife, Karen, have raised 3 daughters during their 35 years of marriage.
Rod MatthewsAssistant Director of FPNW
Rod Matthews is currently an associate scout for the Tampa Bay Rays. He has organized numerous baseball & softball camps, clinics and individual workouts with hundreds of kids in both Washington and Oregon. Some of the softball instructors at the clinics have included daughter Alicia Blake, Ashley Charters, UW coaches JT D’Amico & Lance Glasoe, Harvard coach Brandi Gordon, Virginia coach Geoff Hirai plus many more. He has guided three children through the college or professional ranks. Rod’s oldest son Jarod spent six years in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. His second son Travis played two years of college baseball at Skagit Valley Community College Mt. Vernon, WA and his daughter Alicia played catcher for 4 years for the University of Washington and was a member of the 2009 National Championship team. He has been married to wife Trish for 29 years and also has a daughter Tessa (15) and son Daylon (12).
Tom MauldinAssistant Director of FPNW
Tom Mauldin's background includes more than 35 years and 3,000 games of fastpitch softball as a player and coach. In addition to owning I Bring It Softball in Central Oregon, he is head softball coach at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon. He has conducted numerous high school, club and college clinics throughout the years. Tom is a retired newspaperman, but still writes for a variety of print and online publications, including Fastpitch Northwest and maxpreps.com. He and wife, Cat, have raised four daughters and a son — all college graduates and former ballplayers.
